Guide for Long Features

Long features tend to be 1500 to 3000 words in length, but some leeway will be given depending on topics. Before submitting a long feature authors must always submit a topic and an abstract in an email to our submissions.

Long features will not be read unless they have first been solicited through this system. The email title should read “Long Feature Topic: [YOUR TOPIC]”

The abstract is a 100-150 word synopsis of what you are going to write about. It should include your general thesis (statement you intend to prove) and one-sentence summaries of every paragraph or couple of paragraphs depending on your feature’s length.

Once your topic has been approved:

The following things must be included at the beginning of every long feature manuscript:

A title

Your author’s byline – if you are publishing under a name other than your real name, include both and indicate which is which.

Author’s email address – we don’t want to have to dig around to contact you.

All files must be submitted in .doc, .docx, or .txt format. Font must be a simple, readable font like Arial, Courier, Tahoma, or Times New Roman. Do not use strange colors for your font.

If your manuscript has been accepted, you will be contacted via email to agree on publication. After that the manuscript will be revised and edited, if necessary, and once both parties sign off on that it will be published within a few weeks of final acceptance.
